Bless Me Ulima: Chapter 20

During chapter twenty I was not pleased as to why the author did what he did, Antonio is a small child yet that hasn't grown up quickly but thanks to Ultima has seen so many things and has experienced many things beyond his years. I don't understand why Ultima is allowing this when she knows how much Antonio has been affected because of what he has seen. The "spirits" that were there seemed fake and it didn't seem real or important to anything that had happened in the rest of the book.
